LIFACC CELEBRATES FILM MAKER, BOX OFFICE CHAMPION FUNKE AKINDELE FOR SETTING NIGERIA’S BOX OFFICE RECORD

At The LAGOS INTERNATIONAL FILM AND CINEMA CONVENTION, celebrate and congratulate the Nigerian superstar actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele for her outstanding record-setting feat in the Nigerian film industry.

Every week since its release on 15 December 2023, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ has broken several records: the biggest weekend opening in Nollywood; the largest opening for a female director ever; and the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever. It has now become the first Nollywood film to pass the N1 billion mark domestically. As of Friday, January 26th, 2024 the CINEMA EXHIBITORS Association’s BOX office reports put current figures at ₦1,350,028,330

This is such a beautiful time for the cinema and film industry in Nigeria and Africa, Mr Moses  Babatope  A co-founder at FilmHouse Group and the Managing Director of FilmOne Entertainment,  has seen Nollywood’s highs, lows, and pivots, counting the pandemic as one major ordeal that threatened to obliterate cinema for good. This all changed with the outstanding success of films like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which saw the first 1 billion Naira in ticket sales for a single title. Several other impressive showings by homegrown movies mean the cinema business continues to breathe, providing a livelihood for tens of thousands of people along the value chain.

There is no better time to bring your cinema business to the only dedicated cinema event on the continent of Africa than now. Moses further stated on his LinkedIn page “While our international friends and partners may see this as a relatively small dollar number, this record-breaking achievement is a testament to the incredible talent and hard work of the Nigerian and African film industry. Here’s to using this success as a springboard to greater heights!”

We at LIFACC join the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to congratulate Ms Funke Akindele, and Moses Babatope for this outstanding contribution to the progress of Cinema and film Business in Nigeria and Africa

The next edition of the LAGOS INTERNATIONAL FILM AND CINEMA CONVENTION is scheduled to be held from 1st to 3rd August 2024 in Lagos Nigeria.
